Unusual fruits (and a vegetable) to add to your smoothie:

Dragon fruit

With a beautiful pink outside and a striking white flesh polka dotted with black seeds, the dragon fruit is rich in antioxidants and native to the Americas. The fruit also contains vitamin C, polyunsaturated fatty acids, B vitamins for carbohydrate metabolism, carotene and protein.

Gooseberry

These little berries are full of flavones and anthocyanins, which are compounds that are said to have numerous health beneficial effects against cancer, aging, inflammation, and neurological diseases. They also contain a whopping amount of vitamin C, nearly 20 times the amount found in oranges! They contain a wide range of other vitamins and minerals, as well as omega 3 fatty acids.

Red Beet

Yep, it seems strange to include veggies in your smoothie, but beetroots are a great addition. While they do have a high sugar content (so use sparingly), they are said to lower blood pressure, boost stamina and fight inflammation, as well as being rich in valuable nutrients and fibre.
